We started the Group in 2009 with a range of instruments from soprano and descant to great and contra bass. Most members have played little since school days when they join us, although some may have got together in small groups and very much enjoy the experience of being part of a larger ensemble.
The music ranges through the ages from early to relatively modern and, although the emphasis is on the renaissance and baroque periods which sound so good on recorders, we have a variety of more recent compositions which also lend themselves well to the instrument. None of the music is difficult and we are fortunate to have some very good arrangers who write specifically for U3A groups. It is, generally, a non-performing group which means there’s no pressure.
An ongoing commitment is not essential, but regular practice, especially in the early stages, will certainly help.
New members will be made very welcome into this relaxed and friendly group, and will soon gain confidence with the help and support of other players. You will need to be able to read simple music. We have a lot of arrangements written for U3A Groups, which are not difficult and sound very good. Music will be provided but please bring your recorders and a music stand.
We request a contribution of £3.00 per meeting to cover the cost of room rental and tea & biscuits.
