AI: it’s not just for sci-fi movies anymore. It’s popping up on your phone, helping you shop, plan trips, and maybe even giving your doctor a digital nudge. But what is this elusive thing, and will it finally figure out how to fold laundry? (A girl can dream.)
If you find yourself nodding vaguely whenever someone mentions “algorithms” or “machine learning,” you’re in the right place. We’re starting a friendly, non-technical u3a group to unravel AI together! Think of it as dipping your toes into the future… without needing to assemble a robot in your shed.
What we’ll be doing:
- Clear explanations: We’ll ditch the jargon.
- Easy & fun tools: We’ll try out AI that’s actually useful (or maybe one that just writes silly poems).
- Share the wisdom: Bring your ideas and your questions.
- The Bigger Picture: We’ll chat about the ethics, the opportunities, and how AI might impact society. (Will robots steal our biscuits? We need to know!)
Let’s be clear: as your guides, we are interested amateurs, not computer wizards. We’re here to learn with you. If something goes wrong… at least we can all laugh together.
No tech background is needed. Just curiosity and a willingness to say, “Let’s have a go!” We’re aiming to meet on a monthly basis in the Community Centre. Our first session is on Thursday 8th January from 10.30 to 11.30 am at the Fairford Community Centre, Baker Room and thereafter on the first Thursday of the month.
