A new Fairford U3A Chess Group is being set up to replace the previous one which came to a halt during the Covid lowdown.

We plan to meet at 2 pm on the third Tuesday of every month in the Heritage Room at the Community Centre for two hours – basically some intellectual fun to be had during the winter afternoons.

At any one time the plan is for two large tables for up to eight players playing four games. The playing standard is expected to vary from “Beginner” to “Advanced” and everything in-between! Experienced players will no doubt be happy to guide those new to the game and it is OK if you do not manage literally every meeting – just let us know.

The cost per meeting will be £3 cash per player to cover the cost of the room on the ground floor. All excess generated will be paid back to members. Toilets are available nearby as are tea/coffee facilities.

Please apply for membership to the Group Leader Gordon Lee.
